Role Overview:<\/p>\n
This engagement is focused on user experience (UX) research to improve the caseworker experience and reduce workload tied to eligibility and compliance processes in a public-sector environment. The consultant will plan and lead discovery and usability testing sprints, identify pain points and inefficiencies across current processes and systems, and deliver research outputs that inform a prioritized roadmap for automation and operational modernization in anticipation of upcoming federal regulation changes.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Design and lead discovery and usability testing sprints to identify innovation and automation opportunities.
Conduct user research through interviews, shadowing, and observation of frontline staff.
Analyze current systems and data flows and map end-to-end user journeys.
Identify process pain points, friction, and inefficiencies impacting caseworker workload.
Produce actionable deliverables such as journey maps, user stories, and research artifacts to support prioritization and planning.
Communicate research insights to cross-functional teams including project, design, development, product, and program stakeholders.
Develop strong, trusted stakeholder relationships; represent the voice of the user in a public-sector environment.
Support implementation efforts by translating insights into clear findings and recommendations for production changes.
Work effectively in iterative or agile delivery environments.<\/p>\n
Required Skills and Experience:<\/p>\n
Experience in Health and Human Services or benefits delivery on federally funded programs (SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, or Unemployment Insurance).
Deep experience in UX Research and user-centered design practices.
2+ years of UX experience supporting products, platforms, or services at scale.
Demonstrated ability to drive successful product or service improvements based on research.
Experience across the UX spectrum, including information architecture, low-fidelity to high-fidelity design, design systems, accessibility, prototyping, and user research.
Proven ability to build alignment with stakeholders and communicate complex ideas clearly.
Experience leading design work for a product, platform, or service.
