During this period they help feed cattle and calves, prepare feed mixtures, and distribute feed to the animals, while also checking drinking-water supplies and cleaning troughs, tanks, and watering equipment to keep the herd supplied. They assist with cleaning out pens and refreshing bedding, check on cows during calving, and remain available to help with calving and new calves as needed, including vaccinating as required and supporting breeding activities and pregnancy checks as directed. After winter, the cattle are moved to pastures for grazing, and no manual feeding or care of animals is needed until the next winter. In addition to livestock work, employees assist with planting grain in the spring and harvesting crops in the summer, operating tractors, combines, and other farm equipment to complete those field tasks. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and\/or experience.
